作者简介
本书作者是英国作家、诗人鲁德亚德·吉普林Rudyard Kipling（1865—1936）。他1865年生于当时的英属殖民地印度孟买。5岁时，他自己口中的在孟买的那些“有着强烈光明与黑暗”的日子结束了。他和3岁的妹妹一起被父母带回了英国。当他在16岁零9个月再次回到孟买时，他发现他找到了自己，从此游历多地。而他的作品也充满了异域的色彩，主要作品有儿童故事《丛林之书》，印度侦探小说《基姆》，诗集《营房谣》。吉普林于1907年，以“观察入微、想像独特，气魄雄劲，叙事卓越见长”而获得诺贝尔文学奖，他是英国第一位诺奖得主，也是至今诺奖最年轻的得主。
