演艺经历
他在早年（约1998年）参加了皇家莎士比亚剧团的舞台演出，出现在《猫》和《麦克白》等音乐剧中。2001年，他在BBC製作的《Doctors》中饰演Tom Steele，这是他第一个电视角色。另外参演该电视台製作的《Casualty》，饰演Craig。
2002年，他在BBC製作的《Sparkhouse》中扮演农场工人John Standring 。
2003年，他在ITV製作的《Cold Feet》第五季中饰演Lee Richards，在《Ultimate Force》第二季中饰演Ian Macalwain，在《Between the Sheets》中饰演Paul Andrews。

他在之前出演的电影很少，只有1999年《Star Wars I：The Phantom Menace》（龙套角色）、《This Year's Love》、《Cleopatra》、2002年的《极限武力》和2004年的《Frozen》。
2011年，他参与拍摄了由美国迪斯尼公司旗下的漫威娱乐公司製作出品的电影《Captain America: The First Avenger（美国队长）》，在其中饰演反角德国间谍Heinz Kruger。
2010年底到2012年7月中旬，他参与拍摄了大型魔幻电影《The Hobbit（霍比特人）》，此片製片商为华纳兄弟公司， 新线电影公司和米高梅公司共同发行，导演为Peter Jackson（彼得·杰克逊）。他在其中饰演了重要角色矮人王Thorin Oakenshield（索林·橡木盾）。此电影分为三部，第一部《The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey（霍比特人：意外之旅）》于2013年2月22日在中国上映，第二部《The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug（霍比特人：史矛革之战）》于2014年2月21日在中国上映，第三部《The Hobbit:The Battle of Five Armies（霍比特人：五军之战）》将于2014年12月17日在美国上映，中国上映日期为2015年1月23日。
2012年7月下旬到9月下旬，他拍摄了由Steven Quale（史蒂文·奎里）执导的惊悚电影《Into the Storm（不惧风暴）》，在其中饰演男主角Gary Fuller，该片于2014年9月12日在中国上映。
2014年，他出演了The Old Vic的舞台剧The Crucible，在其中饰演男主角John Proctor。同年，他参与拍摄了心理惊悚片Sleepwalker，在其中饰演男主角Dr Scott White。
